Our main exhibition was held at Japanese American Association of New York (JAA) on 44th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. It offers various classes (cultural/hobby) and charity/cultural events throughout the year, and is visited by both Japanese and Americans.
The event hall used for the exhibition is a large, bright room with lots of natural light. We displayed Mr. Ishidas Snow Country, which appears on the cover of exhibition pamphlets, at the entrance where it greets people coming in through the door. All other works lined the event hall wall.
Once inside, everyone had a different thing to say some in Japanese, some in English:
Triple Water Wheels of Asakura? Thats my hometown!
I wonder if this is how real Yanaka looks too
Are they prints or paintings?
Our opening reception was attended by both JAA members and non-members. They watched intently and asked questions as Mr. Ishida dexterously cuts black washi paper during demonstration sessions.
It was nice to have so many people including those who came to attend classes and other JAA events to see our exhibition. A week-long exhibition has found new audiences and helped to broaden sengas appeal.
To everyone at JAA who gave 110% to make our exhibition a great success Thank you!
