Akihiko Oiwa/Mayano Onodera : Futari-Ten (2-Artist Exhibition)
At Light Box Gallery, NYC, NY (3/14/03~3/16/03)
Exhibition Space 1 Gallery Entrance
Exhibition Space 2 Exhibition Space 3 Scene from the Reception
Returning to New York for the first time in 3 years, I got together with Mr. Oiwa for a 3-day exhibition called “Futari-Ten”, or 2-Artist Exhibition. After spending 2 weeks in freezing Montreal, the weather in New York, which was just starting to warm up, felt like it was spring.

Due to the scheduling constraint, the exhibition was only 3-day long, shorter than normal 1 week. I’d like to thank the Light Box Gallery’s staff for making a special arrangement. Light Box gallery, by the way, is a cozy, small gallery located in the heart of SoHo.

The unique combination of photo, clay figures and senga was to make “Futari-Ten” an interesting exhibition. Unfortunately, a carton containing clay figures never made it to New York. It was lost on the way and we still don’t know where it is... Though incident like this is inevitable during international exhibitions, it’s still heart-breaking. I hope they find it. Fortunately, we had enough photos and senga to fill the walls, and the exhibition went on as scheduled.

Depite the lack of promotion, we had many friends and old acquaintances visiting us during the 3-day exhibition. Since the exhibition was held over the weekend, many stayed for hours to chat with us. We talked about old times, jobs and updated each other. Meeting them again was the highlight of the event.

It was more of a vacation in New York than an exhibition. My appreciation goes to everyone, including staff at Light Box Gallery, who worked hard to bring us back to New York.
